Fall 2011

It’s hard to believe the summer is gone.  This last summer was a very busy one for our family, and we ended with the wedding of our youngest son last week, so I now have another daughter in the family, and I love it.  Now to the start of the fall season, I am so ready, it’s my favorite time of the year.  Put a pot of soup on the back burner and a pumpkin or apple pie in the oven and your time can now be spent quilting.  I have been asked to have another Half Square Triangle Swap and something new will be Gift Night.  I will have a presentation of things you can make for those special people in your life.  Read on to find out about classes in the basics and a few extras.  Stop in to see what’s going on and get in the spirit of the season.

Gift Idea Class

Join me at the shop on Wednesday, November 16th  for a night of gift ideas, with hand outs for the projects on that night.  Table toppers, purses, kindle keeper covers, candle hugs just a few things I have in mind, as well as some ideas for gift baskets.  We will also have time to make a small gift to take home with you. So join me for a night of getting in the Christmas Spirit, have some dessert and relax.

Half Square Triangle Swap

Half square triangle swap is a great way to get involved with people that love the look of scrap quilts, plus we learn how to use those scraps that seem to grow when we turn out the lights as night.  Here’s how it works, make a bunch of half square triangles, using triangle paper so they will all be the same size, and however many you turn in you will get back that amount.  You will be using Laundry Basket 2” finished triangle paper, 2 pieces of fabric 6 ½” x 22”, layer, sew on the dotted lines and cut on the solid lines.  This will make 28 half square triangles, HST.  Sew as many sets as you like, keeping in mind that most quilts use 100 or more triangles.  Have fun with color and make a bunch of different sets.  I have based this on Edyta Sitars book Friendship Triangles which has some beautiful quilts to get you motivated to swap.
  • DETAILS: Make as many HST as you want to trade and turn them in on or before Saturday, November 19th.
  • PICK UP DATE:  Wednesday, November 30th,  or anytime the next day.
  • SWAP NIGHT:  6PM  November 30th at the shop there will be a short program on using HST and I will show you some of the quilts I have made.
  • Must use quilt shop grade fabric.  It’s only fair that if you are using better fabric you get that in return.
  • Colors, darks and mediums of any colors and lights are to be creams, beiges and light tans.  NO WHITES PLEASE!!!!!!!!
  • I will have packs of the HST paper or I will have the sheets to purchase.  Packs make 700 HST.
  • To sign up call 723-1213 and I will see you at the swap.
